Porous refractory materials (light-weight chamotte)

specific varieties of regular chamotte, i.e. refractory aluminosilicate aggregate made of raw refractory clay mixed with flammable organic components, burned at ca. 1300 0C, broken up (or ground) and screened to specific particle sizes.

The basic features distinguishing both chamotte types is apparent density, which is often twice higher in regular than in light-weight chamotte, and usually reduced refractoriness.

Light-weight chamotte is usually used in the refractory materials industry for the manufacturing of formed insulation products (straight connectors, wedges, fittings) and unformed materials (concrete, mortar). Compared with other materials used in the production of insulation materials (pearlite, LECA), light-weight chamotte has higher refractoriness and better mechanical resistance, with similar apparent density.
